Frequently asked questions
Which guitar suits thrash metal and djent better?
The Alexi Laiho Hexed is purpose-built for thrash and djent, with its scalloped frets from the 19th onward, faster neck profile, and 25.5" scale optimizing rapid lead work and aggressive rhythm tones. The Eclipse Custom is capable of metal but leans more toward versatile, balanced performance across genres.
What is the main construction difference?
The Hexed uses neck-through construction (neck extends through the body) for maximum sustain and responsiveness. The Eclipse Custom uses set-neck construction (neck glued into body), which is more traditional and offers structural integrity with a slightly warmer tone character.
Which is better for studio and live performance?
The Eclipse Custom is optimized for studio and live balance, with a shorter 24.75" scale, 22 frets, and stable TonePros TOM bridge requiring no tremolo maintenance. The Hexed excels in aggressive live metal but demands more technical upkeep due to its Floyd Rose bridge.
How do the pickups and electronics differ?
The Hexed uses a single EMG HZ F-H2 bridge pickup with passive electronics and an active boost switch, prioritizing aggressive clarity. The Eclipse Custom features dual EMG HET SET active pickups throughout with responsive dual-volume and tone controls, offering broader tonal shaping and symmetry between neck and bridge positions.
