Frequently asked questions
Which pickup fits my instrument?
The 81TWX-R is a single-coil retrofit for standard 6-string guitars. The 808X is a soapbar designed for 8-string instruments with standard cavity dimensions (101.6 mm × 38.1 mm). They are not interchangeable.
How long do the batteries last?
The 81TWX-R provides 1500 hours at 160 microamps. The 808X delivers 3000 hours at 80 microamps—twice as long due to lower current draw and larger soapbar coil efficiency.
Which is better for recording?
The 81TWX-R excels in recording studios because its –107 dB noise floor rejects hum and interference in quiet environments. The 808X prioritizes dynamic range and low-end extension, making it better suited for metal and djent recording rather than noise-sensitive tracking.
Do both use solderless installation?
Yes, both feature EMG's solderless Quik-Connect system. The 81TWX-R ships with pre-assembled cables ready for direct connection, while the 808X includes a complete electronics kit with volume pot and active tone control that you assemble into your cavity.
