Frequently asked questions
Can the EMG 58 work in a seven-string guitar?
The EMG 58 is a general-purpose active humbucker designed for modern routing but is not voiced specifically for seven-string instruments. The EMG 57-7H is engineered with seven-string harmonic shaping in mind, making it the better choice for extended-range tunings.
What's the real difference in output between these two?
The EMG 57-7H measures 4.5V on full strums and is voiced for aggressive midrange clarity in high-gain contexts. The EMG 58 offers controlled output with balanced harmonics, making it more neutral across bridge and neck positions. The 57-7H is designed for saturation; the 58 prioritizes versatility.
Do both come with everything I need to install?
Yes—both include solderless installation systems with potentiometers, battery bus, output jack, mounting hardware, and cables. The 57-7H ships with volume and tone pots; the 58 includes 25k pots. Neither requires soldering.
Which battery lasts longer?
The EMG 57-7H is specified for 600 hours of typical battery life. The EMG 58 is described as having low power consumption for extended battery performance but no specific duration is listed, so the 57-7H has a confirmed longer lifespan.
