Frequently asked questions
Which guitar is better for drop-D and standard tunings?
The Sun Valley Super Shredder FR S covers drop-D and aggressive standard tuning work well with its 25.5" scale and snappy bolt-on tone. The Damien Platinum-9 is overkill for traditional tunings—it's built for drop-G, drop-F#, and lower, where its 30" scale and nine strings shine.
What's the main playability difference between these neck profiles?
Both use a Thin 'C' neck at identical first-fret widths (.787"), but the Platinum-9 has a 20" fretboard radius while the Super Shredder FR S uses 14", making the latter slightly more curved for faster shred work. The Platinum-9's 30" scale spreads strings wider; the Super Shredder's 25.5" feels more compact.
How do the pickup systems differ?
The Platinum-9 uses dual EMG 909 pickups with simple volume and tone controls, optimized for consistent articulation across nine strings. The Super Shredder FR S pairs an EMG Retro Active Hot 70 bridge with a Sustainiac neck pickup offering three harmonic modes, giving you expression through feedback effects.
Is the B-Stock Super Shredder a significant discount compared to new?
Yes—B-Stock indicates cosmetic imperfections or opened-box condition, but full identical specifications and performance as new. The exact discount amount is not specified in the product information, but B-Stock pricing is typically 10–20% below new retail.
