Description
JBL Control 328C 8" Coaxial 2-Way Ceiling Loudspeaker
The Control 328C is a coaxial ceiling speaker engineered for consistent, intelligible sound distribution across medium-sized spaces. Its compact round baffle installs flush into standard ceiling cavities, delivering controlled dispersion without the acoustic compromises of conventional point-source designs. Built to professional standards, this speaker handles both speech reinforcement and music playback with precision.
Audio Performance & Frequency Response
The coaxial design places a 25 mm compression driver at the acoustic center of a 200 mm Kevlar-reinforced woofer, ensuring tight phase alignment and smooth tonal continuity. Coverage spans 45 Hz to 18 kHz (−10 dB), with a 120° broadband pattern control that maintains even SPL across the listening area—essential for background music systems and venue installations where coverage gaps create dead spots and listener complaints.
Construction & Reliability
The speaker features a metal, round baffle with a ported design and drivers pre-mounted for fast installation. The high-frequency driver uses a pure titanium diaphragm with diamond surround and FerroFluid cooling, built to handle long hours of continuous operation without fatigue. A removable multi-pin locking connector with screw-down terminals simplifies both initial setup and on-site service when you need quick repairs or upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the coaxial design better than a standard point-source ceiling speaker?
The coaxial design places a 1-inch compression driver at the acoustic center of a 200 mm Kevlar woofer, ensuring tight phase alignment and smooth tonal continuity across the frequency range. This eliminates the acoustic compromises and dead zones common in conventional designs, delivering consistent SPL and intelligibility throughout the listening area.
Is the Control 328C suitable for live concert sound or high-volume reinforcement?
No—this speaker is engineered for commercial speech reinforcement, background music systems, and fixed installations in medium-sized spaces. It is not designed for portable live sound or high-SPL concert reinforcement applications.
How much power does it handle, and what's required for installation?
The Control 328C handles 250W long-term power and 1000W peak (8-Ohm amplifier). Installation requires a standard 310 mm (12.2-inch) ceiling cutout and is compatible with the MTC-300BB8 backcan; drivers come pre-mounted and connect via a removable multi-pin locking connector with screw-down terminals for fast setup and future service.
What frequencies does it cover, and is it clear enough for speech?
Frequency response spans 45 Hz–18 kHz (−10 dB) with a 120° broadband pattern control that maintains even SPL across the listening area—essential for intelligible speech clarity in commercial and institutional settings. The titanium diaphragm compression driver and 1.9 kHz crossover ensure precise high-frequency reproduction.
How does this compare to the Bose DS 100F or Yamaha VXL1?
The Control 328C competes in the professional ceiling-speaker category alongside the Bose DS 100F and Yamaha VXL1, offering tight coaxial phase coherence and controlled 120° dispersion at a competitive price point. Direct feature and performance comparisons depend on your venue size and installation constraints—consult specification sheets for your specific application.
