Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this cymbal different from standard crash cymbals?
The AAX Chinese is a crash-ride hybrid with a flanged edge, large raw bell, and thin weight that prioritizes trashy, brash character and cutting projection over sustain. Its modern bright sound and fast articulation make it a statement piece for rock and metal rather than a traditional crash.
Is this cymbal suitable for jazz or worship music?
No, the AAX Chinese is engineered for rock, metal, funk, and hard rock where aggressive cut and trashy attitude are desired. Its biting attack and high projection are not a good fit for jazz or worship styles.
What skill level do I need to play this cymbal?
This cymbal is voiced for intermediate, advanced, and professional players who can control its bright, cutting character and fast response effectively. Beginners may find its aggressive profile and thin weight challenging to balance in a kit.
How does the brilliant finish affect the sound?
The brilliant finish is part of Sabian's modern bright sound profile, contributing to the cymbal's crisp, clear, and cutting response. It enhances the penetrating definition and projection that define this cymbal's character.
What does the 6.00 lb weight tell me about playability?
At 6.00 lbs in a medium-thin classification, this 20" cymbal offers fast articulation and immediate response without sacrificing structural durability. The lighter weight makes it responsive to quick stick work while the flanged edge maintains projection.
