EMG 35J Active Bass Pickup in Black
The EMG 35J is a punchy single-coil J-bass pickup engineered for articulate, focused midrange response and tight low-end definition. This active design delivers consistent output and clean headroom across the frequency spectrum, making it essential for bass players who demand clarity and reliability night after night on stage.
Design & Build
The pickup features a ceramic magnet construction housed in a compact 38 × 89 mm extended housing optimized for J-bass cavities. The single-coil design produces the characteristic bright, articulate character working bass players expect, while the active circuitry ensures signal integrity and reduced noise floor—critical for live use and recording sessions.
Electronics & Performance
Powered by a single 9V battery with an impressive 3000-hour battery life, this active circuit delivers 0.8V RMS and 1.10V peak output voltage with 10 Kohm output impedance. The pickup operates at just 80 microamps current draw at 9V and supports up to 27 VDC maximum supply voltage, including compatibility with 18V power systems for enhanced headroom—practical advantages for touring musicians who need consistent performance across different venues and rigs.
