What's included in the box?

The EMG 58 comes complete with the pickup itself, a 25K volume potentiometer, 25K tone potentiometer, battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus connector, mounting hardware (screws and springs), and all necessary cables (pickup, connect, output, and battery). The solderless system means you can install it without soldering.

Does this pickup work in any position, and does it sound different in bridge vs. neck?

Yes—the EMG 58 is compatible with bridge, neck, and middle positions without tonal compromise. Bridge placement emphasizes its articulate high-end aggression, while neck position remains clear and controlled thanks to the tight midrange design.

What genres and styles is this pickup best suited for?

The EMG 58 excels in metal, rock, hard rock, and fusion where aggressive tone and articulation matter. Its tight, controlled character is less suited for jazz and blues, which typically favor warmer, smoother voicings.

How does the active electronics affect tone and what about the 9V battery?

The 9V active electronics deliver consistent high output and very low noise, ensuring your tone stays stable and clear across volume ranges and in electrically noisy environments. A fresh 9V battery powers the circuit and will need periodic replacement depending on playing frequency.

How does the EMG 58 compare to passive humbuckers?

Active humbuckers like the EMG 58 offer higher output, lower noise, and more consistent midrange articulation than passive models, making them ideal for high-gain and studio work where clarity and punch are priorities. They require a 9V battery, whereas passive pickups do not.
