What does active electronics mean, and do I need a battery?

Active electronics use a preamp powered by a battery to boost signal and shape tone, giving you increased headroom and an open frequency response without midrange mud. The EMG 60-7X includes a battery bus harness, so you'll need to install a 9V battery; it typically lasts several months with regular playing.

Is this pickup neck or bridge position, and what if I want both?

This is typically a neck-position pickup. The EMG 60-7X is engineered to integrate into comprehensive active systems with a two-pickup in/out bus, so you can pair it with an 81-7X or another EMG 7-string model in the bridge position for a complete setup.

What genres and tunings is this pickup best suited for?

The 60-7X excels in metal, progressive, djent, and drop-tuning styles where tight articulation, clarity, and controlled aggression matter most. It is not optimized for blues, jazz, or folk applications where a warmer, more vintage voice is typically preferred.

What is included in the box?

You get the 7-string pickup, X series preamp, 25K volume pot, active tone pot, battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting hardware, and all necessary cables (pickup, connect, output, and battery cables) — a complete wiring harness ready to install.

How does the active tone pot work?

The active tone pot functions as a variable low-pass filter (VLPF), allowing you to sculpt high-end presence and harmonic content in real time without affecting your volume or introducing compression, giving you precise control from clean to high-gain tones.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

Sales tax is collected only on orders shipped to California; orders shipped to any other US state are not charged sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces collect sales tax as the facilitator in most states, so the same listed price can cost more there. Buyers remain responsible for any use tax their state applies. Active Electronics & Tone Shaping

The included X series preamp provides increased headroom and an open, organic voice compared to standard EMG configurations, allowing fuller frequency response without compression or muddy midrange coloration. The active tone pot operates as a variable low-pass filter (VLPF), giving you sculpting control over high-end presence and harmonic content throughout your playing dynamic.
