Is this pickup suitable for drop tunings and extended-range guitars?

Yes—the 60-7XH is specifically voiced for 7-string instruments and excels in drop tunings. Its tight low-end response and ceramic magnet construction maintain clarity and string separation across all seven strings, even in heavily down-tuned applications.

What comes in the box, and do I need additional wiring components?

The package includes the pickup, Quik-Connect™ cable, a prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, and all necessary mounting hardware. No additional wiring components are required for installation into a standard humbucker cavity.

How long does the 9V battery last?

With a current draw of only 80 microamps, the battery life is approximately 3000 hours of continuous operation, which typically translates to months of regular playing before replacement is needed.

Can I use this pickup in both neck and bridge positions?

Yes. The 60-7XH is designed to sit comfortably in either position, offering consistent articulate midrange and controlled aggression regardless of placement in your 7-string guitar.

How does the 60-7XH compare to other 7-string active pickups?

The 60-7XH uses a mini-humbucker coil design in a full-sized footprint scaled for 7-string instruments, emphasizing tight string separation and vocal upper-mids at 2.95 kHz. This positions it as an alternative to models like the Seymour Duncan Pegasus 7-String and DiMarzio Dominion7, with a focus on articulate clarity in high-gain contexts.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

EMG 60-7XH 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Chrome

The EMG 60-7XH delivers articulate, controlled aggression with the tight low-end response and defined midrange that define modern extended-range playing. This active humbucker sits comfortably in the neck or bridge position, offering the clarity of a mini-humbucker design in a full-sized footprint scaled for 7-string instruments. The brushed chrome finish adds visual character while the ceramic magnet construction ensures consistent output across extended range tunings.

Electrical Performance & Output

As an active design, the 60-7XH operates on a 9V battery with exceptionally low noise at -89 dBV output noise and conservative current draw of 80 microamps, yielding approximately 3000 hours of battery life. The 1.0 RMS / 3.0 peak output voltage and 10 Kohm output impedance provide enough headroom for high-gain applications without excessive signal compression, while the 2.95 kHz resonant frequency emphasizes the vocal midrange and articulate upper-mid definition essential to 7-string clarity.

Design & Components

The pickup features close aperture coils comparable to a mini-humbucker design, paired with ceramic magnets for aggressive response and tight string separation across all seven strings. The passive mount style integrates seamlessly into standard humbucker cavities, and the complete package includes the Quik-Connect™ cable, a prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, and all necessary screws and springs for immediate installation.
