What genres and playing styles does the EMG 60A suit best?

The 60A excels in rock, metal, and progressive music. Its articulate midrange and controlled dynamics work well for players who need clarity and definition, but it is not optimized for jazz, blues, or folk styles.

How long does the 9V battery last?

The battery is rated for approximately 3,000 hours of continuous operation, meaning regular gigging and studio use will extend battery life to several months or longer between replacements.

What output level and noise performance can I expect?

The 60A delivers 1.0V RMS output with a 3.0V peak output voltage and an ultra-low noise floor of -89 dBV, ensuring clean signal delivery and sufficient headroom for both clean and high-gain tones without unwanted noise.

Will this pickup fit my guitar, and what is included?

The 60A uses standard humbucker dimensions (2.63 × 2.38 × 6 inches) and fits any guitar cavity designed for a full-size humbucker; it arrives with the pickup unit and requires a standard 9V battery for operation.

How does the EMG 60A compare to other active humbuckers?

The 60A balances the articulate clarity of models like the Seymour Duncan Blackout and DiMarzio D Activator, and offers a warmer, more responsive character than the higher-output EMG 81/85—making it a solid all-around choice for rock and metal without excessive aggression.

EMG 60A Active Humbucker Pickup in Gold

The EMG 60A is a versatile active humbucker that cuts through live with articulate midrange and controlled dynamics across a range of playing styles. This gold-finished unit pairs Alnico magnets with EMG's proven active circuitry to produce responsive, musically balanced output that sits well in a mix. The compact, epoxy-cased design integrates cleanly into any guitar cavity for quick swaps and reliable stage duty.

Tone & Electronics

Active electronics powered by a single 9V battery (rated for 3,000 hours of operation) drive a resonant frequency of 2.95 kHz, yielding articulate mids and smooth highs that project without harshness. The 1.0V RMS output with 3.0V peak output voltage and -89 dBV output noise floor ensures low-noise performance and sufficient headroom for both clean tones and aggressive drive, making it dependable night after night.

Design & Build

Constructed from stainless steel and housed in a durable epoxy casing, this pickup measures 2.63 × 2.38 × 6 inches and operates at 80 microamps current draw at 9V. The 10 kΩ output impedance provides stable signal delivery to standard guitar electronics and amplifier inputs, holding up under the demands of touring and frequent gigging.
