What does 'long shaft' mean, and will it fit my guitar?

Long shaft refers to the extended pole-piece configuration designed for guitars with deeper pickup cavities or custom routing that standard pickups won't accommodate. It drops in as a direct replacement for standard humbucker cavities as long as the shaft clearance matches your guitar's routing depth.

How does the Alnico magnet construction affect the tone compared to ceramic active pickups?

Alnico yields a warmer, more nuanced character with better string definition than ceramic alternatives, while retaining the aggressive attack and tight low end active electronics are known for. This balance makes it versatile across high-gain and lower-gain contexts without sacrificing clarity.

Is this pickup suitable for styles outside of metal and hard rock?

The 60AX is optimized for metal, hard rock, and progressive applications and is not designed for jazz, blues, or folk. Its mid-forward, articulate voicing and high output are built specifically for high-gain and studio recording scenarios.

What wiring options does the 60AX support?

The pickup features industry-standard 4-conductor wiring, which allows for coil-tap and series/parallel switching depending on your guitar's wiring scheme and control setup.

What are the noise and output characteristics?

Active electronics with integrated preamp circuitry deliver a low noise floor, consistent output across dynamic playing, and superior noise rejection—ideal for long cable runs, stage use, and recording sessions where clarity is critical.

EMG 60AX Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in White

The EMG 60AX combines the articulate, focused character of a classic active humbucker with the refinement of Alnico magnet technology. This long shaft configuration fits guitars with deeper pickup cavities or non-standard routing, delivering the tight, controlled response that makes active pickups favored by players demanding clarity and dynamics across all playing intensities.

Tone & Response

The Alnico magnet construction yields a warmer, more nuanced character than ceramic alternatives, preserving string definition while maintaining the aggressive attack active electronics are known for. The 60AX's mid-forward voicing cuts through dense mixes and responds dynamically to pick attack and playing dynamics, making it equally capable in high-gain applications and lower-gain contexts.

Design & Specifications

Active circuitry ensures consistent output and superior noise rejection across cable runs and stage environments, while the long shaft design accommodates guitars with deeper or modified pickup cavities. The white cosmetic finish offers visual contrast and integration with specific instrument aesthetics.
