Description
EMG 60X Active Humbucker Pickup in Black
The EMG 60X delivers articulate, controlled aggression with the clarity and definition active electronics bring to bridge and neck positions. This ceramic-magnet humbucker cuts through with surgical precision while maintaining the responsiveness and dynamic range serious players demand. The compact active design pairs tight lows with crisp highs, making it equally at home in heavy riffs and fluid lead work.
Active Electronics & Power
This active pickup runs on a single 9V battery that delivers over 3,000 hours of playing time, eliminating the need for frequent replacements on the road. The integrated active tone control and 25k volume potentiometer provide immediate, hands-on shaping of your signal without external pedals or processors, giving you real-time command over your tone during live sets.
Construction & Installation
The EMG 60X uses a vacuum-sealed epoxy coating that minimizes microphonic feedback and extends component lifespan through the rigors of touring and venue work. The solderless system with 4-conductor wiring and included connectors allows installation without specialized tools—quick swap-ins for a gig or permanent integration both work seamlessly, and there's no downtime waiting for solder to cool.

Frequently Asked Questions
What genres and playing styles is the EMG 60X best suited for?
The 60X excels in metal, hard rock, and progressive music where articulate tone and high output clarity matter most. Its tight lows and crisp highs also work well for fluid lead work, but it is not designed for blues or jazz voicings.
How long does the 9V battery last, and how often will I need to replace it?
The 9V battery delivers over 3,000 hours of playing time, which translates to months of regular use before replacement is needed. The battery powers the active circuitry that shapes your tone and controls feedback.
Can I install this pickup myself, or do I need professional help?
The EMG 60X uses a solderless installation system with included connectors and 4-conductor wiring, so no soldering is required. You can swap it in with basic tools and either make it permanent or keep it reversible depending on your setup.
What is the difference between the EMG 60X and comparable pickups like the EMG 81/85 or Seymour Duncan Blackouts?
The 60X delivers focused output with controlled dynamics (2 kΩ DC resistance) and emphasizes articulate midrange clarity at 2.28 kHz, making it distinct from higher-output alternatives. Its ceramic magnet and vacuum-sealed epoxy design minimize feedback in demanding live and studio conditions.
Will this pickup work in both bridge and neck positions?
Yes, the EMG 60X is compatible with both bridge and neck positions, and its 4-conductor wiring enables stereo output and full tonal flexibility for either location.
