What's the difference between the 60X and EMG's other models like the 81 or 85?

The 60X offers moderate active output with a focused 2.95kHz midrange peak, making it more versatile across both clean and high-gain settings than the hotter 81, and it works well in neck or bridge position without the 85's higher output character. Its ceramic magnet construction and controlled response make it sit between the 81/85 pair in gain and tone color.

How long does the battery last, and is it easy to swap?

On standard 9V battery operation, the 60X draws only 80 microamps and delivers approximately 3,000 hours of playing time before needing a swap. The solderless wiring system makes battery access and replacement quick and clean compared to traditional solder-in pickups.

Can I use this in both neck and bridge positions?

Yes, the 60X is voiced for both neck and bridge positions, delivering consistent articulate response and clarity in either slot. Its moderate output and focused midrange work equally well as a neck workhorse or a bridge screamer.

What does 4-conductor wiring let me do?

4-conductor wiring provides flexible options to wire the pickup in series, parallel, or split configurations, giving you tonal variety and customization beyond standard 2-conductor pickups. This is especially useful if you want to experiment with coil-splitting or blending techniques.

What makes this good for rock and metal but not jazz or blues?

The 60X's active gain staging, firm articulation, and focused midrange are optimized for clarity and cut in high-gain and saturated contexts typical of rock and metal, rather than the smooth, expressive response needed for jazz and blues dynamics. Its voicing prioritizes definition and presence in dense mixes over the warm, sustaining character those genres favor.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. EMG 60X Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Black

The EMG 60X is a versatile active humbucker that delivers articulate, controlled output across neck and bridge positions. Its ceramic magnet construction and moderate output make it equally at home in vintage-voiced applications or modern high-gain setups, offering clarity without mud in either role.

Active Electronics & Power

This pickup runs on up to 27V DC, with typical 9V battery operation drawing only 80 microamps for an impressive 3,000-hour battery life. The solderless wiring system simplifies installation and reduces solder joints that can introduce noise or signal loss—critical for road-ready reliability and quick service work.

Sonic Character & Output

The 2kΩ DC resistance and 10kΩ output impedance combine with a 2.95kHz resonant frequency to yield a focused midrange response that cuts through a live mix without excessive treble harshness. The ceramic magnet provides firm string articulation suitable for both clean definition and saturated drive, staying tight and responsive under stage volume.
