What's the difference between single-coil and dual-coil mode on this pickup?

Single-coil mode peaks at 4.44 kHz with 3.00V output for articulate clarity and definition. Dual-coil mode shifts to 1.83 kHz with 8.50V output, delivering fat compressed tones suited to high-gain metal applications. The switch lets you choose voicing without swapping pickups.

How long does the 9V battery last with this pickup?

The active circuit draws only 160 microamps, yielding approximately 1500 hours of battery life per 9V cell—roughly 2-3 months of regular use before replacement.

What makes the Alnico magnet different from ceramic alternatives?

Alnico magnets contribute organic overtone complexity and vintage warmth that ceramic designs cannot replicate, giving this pickup character beyond pure output aggression.

Is this pickup compatible with my 7-string guitar?

The 707TWX uses a 7-pin connector and solderless system, making it compatible with all EMG active pickup platforms and most 7-string soapbar routes. Verify your guitar's pickup cavity matches standard soapbar dimensions before ordering.

How quiet is this pickup at high gain levels?

Output noise floors are -107 dB in single-coil mode and -109 dB in dual-coil mode, ensuring clean signal transmission even through high-gain amps and preamps without unwanted hum or hiss.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

Sales tax is collected only on orders shipped to California; orders shipped to any other US state are not charged sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. At a typical 7% rate that is an estimated $10 less at checkout than the same listed price on a marketplace, which collects sales tax as the facilitator in most states. Buyers remain responsible for any use tax their state applies. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included.

EMG 707TWX 7-String Active Soapbar Pickup in Black

The EMG 707TWX is a dual-mode active soapbar designed specifically for extended-range 7-string instruments, delivering articulate clarity in single-coil mode and aggressive punch in dual-coil configuration. This pickup bridges vintage Alnico warmth with modern active circuitry, making it equally at home in high-gain metal contexts and cleaner, articulation-focused applications. The solderless connector system and compact form factor integrate seamlessly into virtually any 7-string platform.

Tone & Output Characteristics

Switchable between single-coil and dual-coil modes provides genuine sonic versatility. Single-coil mode peaks at 4.44 kHz with 3.00V output on strum attacks, while dual-coil mode shifts the resonant frequency to 1.83 kHz and delivers 8.50V for fat, compressed tones. The Alnico magnet contributes organic overtone complexity that distinguishes this unit from ceramic alternatives.

Active Electronics & Integration

Low noise floors of -107 dB (single-coil) and -109 dB (dual-coil) ensure clean signal transmission even at high gain levels. The 9V active circuit draws just 160 microamps, yielding approximately 1500 hours of battery life per cell. Rated for up to 27V DC maximum supply voltage, this pickup operates reliably across most amp and preamp configurations.
