What is a B-Stock product?

This product is not listed as B-Stock; it is new and fully warranted by the manufacturer.

Is this pickup suitable for standard tuning or only drop tunings?

The 81-7H is optimized for extended-range and drop-tuned 7-string instruments; while it will function in standard tunings, its voice is engineered specifically for the clarity and articulation required in metal, djent, and progressive playing across lower frequencies.

How long does the battery last and what's involved in changing it?

The 9V battery provides approximately 3000 hours of playing time. Replacement is straightforward thanks to the included battery clip; no soldering is required.

Does this pickup require soldering to install?

No. The 81-7H includes a solderless install system with a prewired split-shaft volume control and output jack, allowing you to integrate it into your instrument without complicated wiring.

How does the 81-7H compare to passive 7-string pickups?

Active design delivers consistent output, zero noise susceptibility, and extended frequency response without the noise floor issues that passive pickups can suffer. The 81-7H maintains defined attack and tight low-end across the full range of a 7-string instrument.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included. Some states ask buyers to self-report use tax on out-of-state purchases.

EMG 81-7H 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Gold

The EMG 81-7H is engineered for 7-string players who need articulate, punchy aggression without compromise on the low end. This active humbucker sits tight in the bridge position, cutting through extended tunings with defined attack and minimal mud. The brushed gold finish combines road-tested durability with refined aesthetics—built to sustain heavy use in both studio and live settings.

Active Electronics & Power Delivery

Powered by a single 9V battery with a 3000-hour lifespan, this active design maintains consistent output across the full frequency range without the noise susceptibility of passive designs. Output sits at 3.00V RMS (4.50V peak) with 10 kΩ impedance, providing enough headroom to drive modern amp heads and processors without signal loss or excessive treble rolloff. The 80 µA current draw is minimal, ensuring your battery lasts through extended sessions.

Construction & Installation

Close aperture coils paired with ceramic magnets focus output into a tight, aggressive voice with 1630 Hz resonant frequency—ideal for percussive attack and definition on extended-range instruments. Dimensions of 88.9 × 38.1 mm fit standard bridge cavities, and the solderless install system with included battery clip and prewired split-shaft volume control eliminates complicated wiring.
