EMG 81-7H 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Gold

The pickup ships with a complete electronics package including a 25k volume potentiometer, 25k tone potentiometer, battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting hardware, and connecting cables — everything needed for a full retrofit or new build.

Yes, the 81-7H is an active pickup that requires battery power to operate. The active circuit delivers consistent output levels and eliminates passive impedance coloration, ensuring stable tone across playing dynamics.

This pickup excels in metal, djent, progressive, and drop-tuning contexts where tight lows and aggressive articulation are priorities. Its ceramic magnets and close-aperture coils are designed to maintain clarity and punch in extended-range instruments, making it less ideal for jazz, blues, or folk applications.

The solderless system uses quick-connect terminals instead of solder joints, simplifying installation and reducing setup time — especially useful when working in tightly routed pickup cavities or doing retrofits without specialized soldering skills.

The EMG 81-7H competes directly with the Seymour Duncan Blackouts 7-String, Fishman Fluence Modern 7-String, and DiMarzio D-Activator. The 81-7H emphasizes focused treble and tight bass control, making it a solid choice if you prioritize articulation and punch in heavy tunings.
