EMG 85 Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Black Chrome
The EMG 85 is a workhorse active humbucker built for gigging musicians who need articulate, controlled output without sacrificing warmth. Its covered design and stainless steel construction deliver reliable stage performance in both bridge and neck positions, making it a versatile choice for players across genres who value clarity and consistency in their signal chain.
Tone & Output Character
The EMG 85 produces a balanced, defined tone with a resonant frequency of 1.87 kHz and output voltages of 3.1 V (single string) and 4.5 V (full strum). This active design yields tight low-end articulation and reduced noise (–101 dB at 60 Hz), ideal for high-gain applications, modern rock, and metal where precision matters on stage or in the studio.
Electronics & Integration
Powered by a single 9V battery with a lifespan of 3,000 hours, this pickup uses solderless connectivity for straightforward installation and minimal downtime. The 2-wire configuration plus battery and 10 kOhm DC resistance keep the signal path clean, while the 10 kOhm output impedance ensures compatible integration with most guitar electronics and effects chains.
