Will this pickup fit my guitar without routing?

Yes. The HX uses a standard humbucker form factor, so it drops into any guitar with humbucker routing. Solderless connections and standardized cables make installation straightforward—no modifications to the body are needed.

What's the difference between this and a passive single-coil?

The HX combines single-coil articulation and brightness with an active X series preamp that increases dynamic range and headroom. The integrated Active Tone Control (VLPF) lets you roll off high frequencies precisely without losing core voice, giving you electronic shaping that passive pickups don't offer.

What's included in the box?

The package includes the HX pickup, 25k volume potentiometer, active tone potentiometer, battery bus, stereo output jack, dual pickup in/out bus, mounting screws, springs, pickup cable, connect cables, output cable, battery cable, and all hardware needed for installation.

How does this compare to the Seymour Duncan Hyperactive or Fishman Fluence Modern?

The HX delivers single-coil snap and harmonic clarity in a humbucker package with an onboard active tone control. It shares the active-preamp and wide frequency response strengths of those designs but emphasizes bright articulation and solderless convenience, making it a strong choice for players wanting straightforward installation and responsive tone shaping.

Is this pickup good for jazz?

The HX is designed for bright, articulate, harmonically rich tones that cut through a mix—characteristics better suited to modern rock, metal, fusion, and studio tracking than traditional jazz, which typically favors warmer, darker voices.

EMG HX Active Single Coil Pickup in Brushed Black Chrome

The EMG HX puts single-coil articulation and snap into a humbucker footprint—no routing required. Pair it with EMG's X series preamp and you get the clarity and dynamic punch that cuts through a live mix while staying definition-rich across the frequency spectrum. The Brushed Black Chrome finish looks sharp in modern and vintage rigs alike, and it mounts straight into any humbucker cavity without modification.

Tone & Electronics

The HX's wide frequency response delivers the brightness and articulation of a single coil with enhanced harmonic content that lives on stage. The X series preamp gives you extra dynamic range and headroom to handle hard picks and riding the volume knob—your dynamics stay intact. The Active Tone Control (VLPF) lets you dial back highs on the fly, shaping your output without killing the core voice. Solid choice for players who want responsive, articulate tones with real electronic control over brightness.

Design & Installation

Solderless installation means no wiring headaches—standardized cables and bus connectors drop in cleanly, making integration into most cavities straightforward. The humbucker housing footprint fits standard humbucker routes, so you can retrofit it into an existing instrument without routing work or downtime.
