What's included in the box?

The EMG HX comes with a 25k volume pot, active tone pot (VLPF), battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting hardware, and all cables needed for a complete solderless installation into a standard humbucker cavity.

Will this pickup fit my guitar?

Yes, if your guitar has a standard humbucker cavity and you're willing to rout or have a tech modify the pickup hole slightly for the long shaft design. The humbucker-sized housing ensures the coil and electronics sit properly in standard mounting positions.

Can I tame the brightness, or is it always aggressive?

The integrated Active Tone Control (VLPF) lets you roll off high frequencies dynamically, so you can dial out harshness during recording or live play while keeping the clarity and presence that define the HX's character.

How does the EMG HX compare to the EMG 81?

The HX is a single-coil design with a brighter, more articulate character and active tone-shaping capability, while the 81 is a humbucker with a darker, more aggressive voicing. The HX suits modern rock and studio tone-shaping; the 81 is better for heavy genres and fixed-tone applications.

Do I need to solder this pickup?

No—the solderless installation system eliminates wiring; everything connects via quick-connect cables and included pots, making it a straightforward drop-in retrofit.

EMG HX Long Shaft Active Single Coil Pickup in White

The EMG HX combines single-coil clarity with humbucker-sized housing and active electronics, delivering articulate high-end response and controlled dynamics in a format that drops into standard humbucker cavities. This pickup excels for players seeking bright, chimey tones with the ability to tame excessive treble on demand, making it ideal for modern rock, alternative, and studio work where tone-shaping control matters.

Tone & Electronics

Built around a ceramic magnet and X series preamp, the HX offers a wide frequency response that preserves clarity and harmonic richness across the spectrum. The integrated Active Tone Control (VLPF) allows you to roll off high frequencies dynamically, preventing brittleness while maintaining presence—essential for taming harsh single-coil characteristics without sacrificing articulation.

Installation & Integration

The solderless installation system eliminates traditional wiring hassles, while included components—25k volume pot, active tone pot (VLPF), battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting hardware, and cables—provide everything needed for a complete drop-in retrofit. Long shaft design ensures proper engagement in standard humbucker mounting positions.
