Is this pickup suitable for jazz or vintage tone aesthetics?

No. The EMG P5 is optimized for modern active bass setups, funk, and styles that benefit from punchy articulation and aggressive attack. If you're seeking traditional jazz warmth or vintage passive tone character, this may not be the right fit.

What comes included with the pickup?

The EMG P5 ships with a solderless Quik-Connect cable, a prewired volume/tone control set, an output jack, and a battery clip—everything needed to simplify installation and setup.

How much output headroom does this pickup provide?

Standard playing produces 2.00V output, and dynamic slap and thump technique can push response to 4.50V, giving you exceptional dynamic range and headroom for both subtle playing and aggressive performance.

How long does the battery last?

At standard 9V operating voltage, the active circuit draws only 80 microamps, yielding approximately 3000 hours of battery life. The active design maintains clean, hum-free operation throughout that range.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. EMG P5 5-String Active Bass Pickup in White

The EMG P5 delivers the punchy, articulate response five-string bass players need for clarity and deep low-end presence on stage and in the studio. Its offset dual-coil design captures aggressive attack and fundamental punch without muddiness, making it the standard choice for modern active bass rigs that demand reliability and headroom.

Tone & Output Character

The offset dual coil configuration yields twice the low-end response compared to traditional single-coil designs, while the 3.20 kHz resonant frequency emphasizes articulation in the midrange. Standard playing produces 2.00V output, with dynamic slap and thump technique pushing response to 4.50V, giving you exceptional headroom and dynamic range across playing styles.

Electronics & Installation

Built on active circuit technology drawing only 80 microamps at 9V, this pickup achieves an impressive 3000-hour battery life while maintaining –106 dBV output noise for clean, hum-free operation through long gigs and sessions. The solderless wiring system and included Quik-Connect cable simplify installation, and the included prewired volume/tone control set, output jack, and battery clip accelerate your build or upgrade.
