Description
EMG P5X 5-String Active Bass Pickup in Ivory
The EMG P5X delivers the focused, articulate punch of a modern active P-bass pickup with refined midrange clarity and controlled low-end response. Its compact, squat coil design sits naturally in Fender-style 5-string P-bass cavities, offering a direct upgrade path for players seeking tighter definition and superior noise rejection without routing or modification. The ivory finish complements vintage and modern aesthetics alike while maintaining the sonic characteristics serious bass players depend on.
Active Design & Tone Shaping
Built as an active humbucker with ceramic magnets, the P5X includes a solderless wiring system that streamlines installation—no soldering required. The included 25k active tone pot with VLPF (variable low-pass filter) and 25k volume pot give you precise control over high-frequency content, allowing you to dial in anything from warm and round to bright and articulate depending on your playing style and amp setup.
Installation & System Integration
This pickup ships as a complete active system with everything needed for a professional installation: the pickup itself, battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting screws, pickup cable, and connect cables. The United States manufacturing ensures consistent quality control and reliable performance from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's included in the box?
The P5X ships as a complete active system: the pickup itself, battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting screws, pickup cable, and connect cables. No soldering is required thanks to the solderless wiring system.
Will this fit my 5-string Fender P-bass without routing?
Yes. The P5X's compact, squat coil design sits directly into Fender-style 5-string P-bass cavities with no modifications needed—it's a direct drop-in upgrade.
What kind of tone should I expect?
The P5X delivers articulate punch with refined midrange clarity and controlled low-end, offering tight string definition and excellent noise rejection. The included 25k active tone pot with variable low-pass filter lets you dial anywhere from warm and round to bright and articulate to match your playing style and amp.
Is this better for funk or blues?
The P5X excels in funk and live performance contexts where articulate punch and tight definition shine. It's not optimized for blues playing, which typically favors warmer, less active tonal characteristics.
What's the difference between this and passive P-bass pickups?
Active design means the P5X includes an onboard preamp, tone shaping via the included VLPF pot, and superior noise rejection—delivering modern clarity and control that passive pickups can't match. Installation is also simpler with solderless wiring.
