Will this pickup fit my bass?

The EMG PCS uses a P-style (Precision Bass) footprint and mounts directly as a drop-in replacement for standard P-bass pickups on Fender Precision Bass and compatible instruments.

What makes an active pickup better than passive for live and studio work?

Active electronics deliver a hot, low-impedance signal with exceptional signal-to-noise ratio, consistent output across the frequency spectrum, and the headroom needed for long cable runs and high-gain amp settings—ensuring your tone stays tight whether you're in the studio or on stage.

What tone character should I expect?

The EMG PCS delivers articulate, punchy tone with controlled lows and focused midrange, making it ideal for funk, rock, and session work where presence and definition matter—it cuts through dense mixes without sacrificing warmth.

Does this require batteries?

Yes, the PCS is battery-powered; active circuitry requires power to operate, which enables the low-noise output and consistent preamp performance that make it suitable for professional studio and live use.

What genres is this pickup best suited for?

The PCS excels in studio sessions, live performance, funk, and rock; it is not recommended for traditional jazz or upright bass styles.
