Description
Seymour Duncan 7-String Sentient Neck, Passive Mount, BlkMetal Pickup
The Seymour Duncan 7-String Sentient Neck pickup delivers focused, articulate response with a balanced character built for extended-range rigs. This neck-position humbucker cuts through live mixes with individual string clarity across all seven strings while maintaining the vintage warmth that sits naturally in your tone. Built for touring and session players who need definition without losing depth, this pickup integrates seamlessly into both modern and classic 7-string setups and handles stage-volume demands.
Tone & Responsiveness
Medium-strength coils paired with an Alnico 5 bar magnet produce the signature vintage output character that defines the Sentient series. Vacuum wax potting eliminates microphonic feedback, ensuring clean, squeal-free operation even at high gain levels—essential for maintaining definition across a seven-string configuration during live performance.
Construction & Wiring
A nickel silver bottom plate contributes to the pickup's tonal response while supporting long-term durability through repeated road use. The 4-conductor lead wire provides flexibility for multiple wiring configurations, making it straightforward to integrate into your guitar's electronics and match your band's sonic needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the Sentient and other 7-string pickups like EMG or DiMarzio?
The Sentient Neck emphasizes vintage warmth and individual string clarity with medium output, sitting between the aggressive bite of an EMG 81/85 and the high-output crunch of a DiMarzio Crunch Lab. Its Alnico 5 magnet and vacuum wax potting deliver balanced definition without excess gain, making it ideal for players who want precision in extended-range tunings without losing tonal character.
Is this pickup suitable for jazz or blues on a 7-string?
No—this pickup is voiced specifically for metal, progressive, and studio sessions where articulation and tight definition matter most. The vintage warmth is present, but the design prioritizes clarity and squeal-free high-gain performance rather than the smooth, singing responsiveness jazz and blues players typically seek.
What does the 4-conductor lead wire give me?
Four-conductor wiring lets you series, parallel, or split the coils depending on your guitar's electronics and your tonal preference, providing flexibility to adapt the pickup to different wiring configurations and playing styles without replacing it.
Will this feedback at high gain?
No—the pickup is vacuum wax potted specifically to eliminate microphonic feedback, ensuring clean, squeal-free operation even at extreme gain levels, which is critical for maintaining definition in seven-string configurations and live sound.
What skill level is this for?
This pickup is designed for intermediate, advanced, and professional players familiar with extended-range guitars and who understand how pickup placement and gain interact in their rigs. Installation and setup require basic soldering knowledge or professional installation.
