Description

Seymour Duncan Antiquity II 60s Surf for Stratocaster

The Antiquity II 60s Surf delivers the articulate, glassy character of a vintage 1960s Stratocaster with authentic aging and hand-crafted detail. This three-pickup set excels at surf, clean funk, and any style demanding clarity and chime without modern aggression. Built in Seymour Duncan's Custom Shop, these pickups capture the sonic and visual character of an instrument that's spent decades developing its voice.

Tone & Vintage Character

The Alnico 5 rod magnets and custom scatter-wound coils produce the bright, articulate response characteristic of 60s Fender designs—crisp high-end and vocal midrange without harshness. The neck and middle pickups measure 6.50k DCR, while the bridge comes in at 9.80k DCR, providing balanced output across all three positions and ensuring the middle pickup operates in RW/RP (Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity) configuration for hum-free switching in positions 2 and 4. On stage, that balanced response means your clean tones stay articulate and defined whether you're digging in or laying back.

Construction & Gig Reliability

Lacquered and wax potting locks in the tone and ensures these pickups hold up under the demands of live gigging and road use. The staggered magnet pattern and custom aging—including vintage blue and yellow cloth push-back wires, light gray flatwork, and specially aged hardware—recreates the look and feel of a genuine 1960s original while maintaining the classic Stratocaster response and touch. The 0.582" pickup height with 0.705" magnet height delivers consistent output and feel night after night, all hand-built to order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What genres and tones are these pickups best suited for?

The Antiquity II 60s Surf excels at surf, funk, blues, and any style demanding clean, articulate tones with vintage clarity. They are not designed for metal, thrash metal, or drop-tuning applications where higher output and aggression are needed.

How does the hum-free switching work?

The middle pickup is reverse wound and reverse polarity (RW/RP), which cancels hum when the selector is in positions 2 and 4 (middle-neck and middle-bridge combinations). This is a classic Stratocaster feature for eliminating 60-cycle noise in those positions.

What are the output levels and how do they compare across the three pickups?

The neck and middle pickups each measure 6.50k DCR, while the bridge comes in at 9.80k DCR. This balanced output ensures consistent volume and response across all three positions without one pickup dominating the mix.

Are these pickups aged to look vintage, or is the aging purely aesthetic?

The aging is both visual and sonic. Lacquered and wax potting, vintage blue and yellow cloth push-back wires, light gray flatwork, and specially aged hardware recreate the look of a genuine 1960s original while locking in the tone characteristics of that era.

What skill level do I need to install and use these pickups?

These pickups are suitable for intermediate, advanced, and professional players. They are passive pickups with standard Stratocaster wiring, so installation difficulty is typical for Strat pickup swaps, but the hand-built quality and vintage tone reward experienced ears.
