Frequently Asked Questions
What does 'tapped' mean on this pickup?
The tapped version lets you switch between two output levels using an internal coil tap, giving you both a hotter and a more moderate voice from the same pickup. This eliminates the need to swap pickups or hardware when you want different intensities.
How does the SSL-3T compare to other Seymour Duncan SSL models?
The SSL-3T sits between the SSL-5 and SSL-6, offering more sustain, fullness, and output than those models with less treble response. The raised Alnico 5 pole pieces create a deeper magnetic field and extra coil windings provide the increased power.
What instruments work best with this pickup?
It's designed for heavier or brighter-toned guitars with ash or alder bodies, and pairs well with maple or rosewood fingerboards. Many players use an SSL-3 in the bridge with vintage-output pickups in the neck and middle for tonal versatility across the five-way switch.
What comes in the box?
The pickup includes a white cover. A calibrated set pairing the SSL-3T with a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup is available separately for hum-canceling in positions 2 and 4 on the five-way switch.
What genres is this pickup built for?
It's recommended for country, pop, blues, classic rock, and hard rock. It is not designed for jazz or folk applications.
