The SH-16 comes with a 4-conductor lead wire, so it can be wired in series, parallel, or split-coil configuration depending on your guitar's existing wiring. If your guitar already has a humbucker route and standard 2-conductor wiring, you can use just the series mode with minimal modification; the 4-conductor design offers extra flexibility if you want to explore parallel or split voicings later.

The SH-16 is tuned for rock, metal, hard rock, and lead work, with the balance to handle cleaner tones as well. It is not recommended for jazz or folk styles, where warmer, lower-output pickups are typically preferred.

The SH-16 is a hybrid that pairs one coil from each: the '59 coil brings vintage warmth and articulation, while the Custom coil adds aggressive output and bite. If you want pure vintage character, the SH-1 59 is your choice; if you want maximum aggression, the SH-4 Custom delivers it. The SH-16 splits the difference for players who need both in one pickup.

The SH-16 has medium output with a DC resistance of 11.5k ohms, making it versatile across tube and solid-state amps at any volume level. It is designed to retain clarity and articulation without overwhelming your signal chain or requiring extreme gain settings.
