Description
EMG 57TW Active Humbucker Pickup in Chrome
The EMG 57TW delivers articulate, responsive tone with the flexibility of switchable single and dual-coil character in a compact chrome-covered humbucker format. Built on EMG's proprietary three-coil design, this active pickup bridges classic humbucker warmth with the clarity and snap of single-coil performance, making it an excellent choice for players who demand versatility without compromise. The solderless connector system simplifies installation and modification on any 6-string guitar.
Tone & Electronics
The 57TW's selectable single and dual-coil sounds leverage a proprietary three-coil internal architecture, allowing you to shift between thick, traditional humbucker response and bright, articulate single-coil character without physically swapping pickups. Active circuitry with 10K ohms DC resistance ensures consistent output, low noise floor, and punchy midrange definition across a wide dynamic range—critical for cutting through live mixes and maintaining clarity during high-gain passages.
Design & Reliability
Constructed with Alnico and steel magnets and finished in chrome, the 57TW maintains a standard 1.1-inch thickness for drop-in compatibility with most guitar cavities. The 5-wire plus ground and battery configuration integrates seamlessly via the solderless connector, eliminating solder joints that can fail on the road and making future swaps or adjustments fast and reliable. Made in the USA, this pickup delivers the build quality and attention to detail EMG is known for—backed by the durability that touring musicians depend on.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really switch between single-coil and humbucker sounds on this pickup?
Yes—the 57TW uses a proprietary three-coil internal architecture that lets you toggle between thick, traditional humbucker response and bright, articulate single-coil character without physically changing pickups. It's controlled via internal wiring or an external switch, depending on your guitar's configuration.
How difficult is installation?
Very straightforward—the 57TW uses EMG's solderless connector system, so there are no solder joints to worry about. It's a 5-wire plus ground and battery connection that plugs in cleanly, and the standard 1.1-inch thickness fits most guitar cavities drop-in.
What's the output and noise level like?
The active circuitry delivers a punchy, defined midrange with 10K ohms DC resistance and a low noise floor, ensuring consistent output and clarity across a wide dynamic range. Active pickups run quieter than passive designs and maintain tonal definition even at high volume.
Is this pickup compatible with my 6-string guitar?
The 57TW is bridged for 6-string configuration and designed to fit standard guitar cavities. Its 1.1-inch thickness provides drop-in compatibility with most existing humbucker routes, though you should verify your guitar's cavity dimensions before ordering.
How does the 57TW compare to other active humbuckers?
Compared to models like the Seymour Duncan Hyperactive and DiMarzio Tone Zone, the 57TW stands out for its switchable single-coil mode and proprietary three-coil design, offering more tonal range in one pickup. It balances traditional warmth with bright clarity and sits between the EMG 81 and 85 in output and character.
