Is this pickup only for djent and metal, or can it work across genres?

The 60-8XH is optimized for djent, progressive metal, drop tunings, and extended-range rhythmic work. Its character—tight lows, articulate attack, and note definition—is less suited to jazz, blues, or folk applications, where warmth and bloom are typically more valued.

What skill level do I need to install and use this pickup?

This pickup is designed for intermediate to advanced players and professionals. It demands an 8-string instrument with proper wiring and an active battery system; basic soldering and wiring knowledge is expected.

How does the active circuitry differ from passive pickups?

EMG active electronics provide low-impedance output and stable gain, eliminating output inconsistencies and noise across all eight strings and lower tunings. This ensures tight, consistent articulation on fast riffing and complex voicings without signal degradation.

Will this work on any 8-string guitar, or do I need a specific model?

The 60-8XH uses a standard humbucker form factor and is engineered for 8-string configurations. Verify your guitar's pickup cavity dimensions and wiring system (active requires a battery compartment) before purchase.

How does the tight low-end response help in a mix?

The tight, defined low-end and high clarity allow individual notes to punch through dense, downtuned mixes without blooming or losing articulation, making it ideal for layered studio recordings and live performances in heavy genres.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

Sales tax is collected only on orders shipped to California; orders shipped to any other US state are not charged sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. At a typical 7% rate that is an estimated $11 less at checkout than the same listed price on a marketplace, which collects sales tax as the facilitator in most states. Buyers remain responsible for any use tax their state applies. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included.

EMG 60-8XH 8-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Chrome

The EMG 60-8XH delivers the clarity and articulation extended-range players demand, with tight low-end response engineered specifically for 8-string configurations. This active humbucker bridges the gap between traditional warmth and modern defined attack, making it equally at home in progressive metal, djent, and drop-tuned rhythmic work. Chrome finish adds visual distinction while the active electronics ensure consistent output across all eight strings.

Design & Construction

Built as an 8-string active humbucker, this pickup is voiced and dimensioned for extended-range instruments rather than adapted from a 6-string design. The active circuitry eliminates output inconsistencies across the wider string spacing and lower tunings, while the chrome finish provides durable cosmetic protection and a professional appearance.

Tone & Electronics

The 60-series character prioritizes note definition and harmonic clarity over saturated midrange bloom, making individual notes punch through dense, downtuned mixes on stage. Active EMG electronics provide low impedance output and stable gain, ensuring tight articulation on fast riffing and complex chord voicings across all eight strings without noise or signal degradation—the reliability and consistency you need for gigging and touring.
