Description
EMG H4 Passive Humbucker Pickup in Black
The EMG H4 is a passive humbucker built for players who want classic coil response and the simplicity of no active circuitry. Its compact footprint drops straight into any standard humbucker cavity with no routing needed, and the ceramic magnet structure delivers a balanced, articulate character that works across everything from clean tones to cranked gain.
Tone & Electronics
Two bar-loaded coils with ceramic bar magnets produce a resonant peak at 1600 Hz, which means strong midrange presence and note definition on stage or in the studio. At 13.65 KOhm DC resistance and 8 Henries of inductance, this pickup sits in the moderate-output range—clean and articulate when played lightly, with natural compression and grit when you dig in.
Design & Build
Over-wound coils and fully shielded construction keep hum and noise out of your signal, while the 5-wire Quik-Connect cable makes installation fast and lets you swap pickups without soldering. At 2.63 inches long and 2.38 inches wide, it fits standard humbucker cavities with zero modification needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the H4 fit my guitar without routing?
Yes. The H4 measures 2.63 inches long by 2.38 inches wide and is designed for standard humbucker cavities, so no routing modifications are needed.
What kind of tone should I expect?
The H4 delivers balanced midrange clarity with articulate clean tones and natural compression when you turn up the gain. Its ceramic magnet structure and 1600 Hz resonant peak favor definition over high output, making it well-suited to blues, rock, and hard rock.
How easy is installation?
Very easy. The H4 includes a 5-wire Quik-Connect cable and mounting screws, allowing you to plug and play without soldering. The fully shielded cable also minimizes interference during installation and quick swaps.
Is this pickup active or passive?
It is fully passive—no battery or external power required. The two bar-loaded coils with ceramic magnets and 13.65 KOhm DC resistance deliver moderate output that works with any standard guitar amplifier.
How does the H4 compare to other budget humbuckers?
The H4 sits alongside models like the Seymour Duncan 59 and DiMarzio PAF in tone character—balanced and articulate. EMG's over-wound coil design and shielded construction keep electromagnetic noise low while maintaining extended frequency response at a competitive price.
