Description
EMG S/S/89 Active Single Coil Pickup Set in Black
The EMG S/S/89 puts three voices in your rig without the noise floor: neck and middle single coils deliver that articulate, cutting clarity for rhythm work and funk dynamics, while the bridge 89 dual-mode element dishes out full humbucker aggression when you need to cut through a loud stage. The solderless design means no permanent mods to your instrument—install clean, gig immediately, and swap if your tone demands shift down the road.
Pickup Design & Magnetic Properties
AlNiCo 5 magnets give you the warm, responsive foundation that holds up in a mix without feedback or hum—critical when you're sharing a stage with drums and bass. The bridge 89 captures full humbucker authority without losing the midrange control and treble snap that makes single-coil tones sit right in a live mix, whether you're playing pop, funk, rock, or metal.
Installation & Electronics
The solderless system means zero iron-on-wood risk: push/pull volume and tone controls wire straight in via the battery bus, and all three pickups power from a single 9-volt. Every future mod—swapping pots, rewiring, tweaking the circuit—stays reversible. The kit includes all connecting cables, output jack, battery cable, and mounting hardware; you just drop it in and play.

No. The EMG solderless quick-connect system uses push/pull controls and a battery bus, eliminating soldering and allowing you to install and modify the set without permanent changes to your instrument's wiring.
What genres and playing styles is this set designed for?
The S/S/89 excels in pop, funk, rock, and metal, where its blend of single-coil snap and bridge humbucker aggression serves both clean articulation and high-gain drive. It is not optimized for traditional jazz or folk applications.
How does the tone balance across the three pickups?
The neck and middle single coils deliver warm, articulate tone with treble clarity and snap, while the bridge 89 dual-mode element adds full humbucker authority and controlled midrange for aggression when needed. AlNiCo 5 magnets ensure a responsive, noise-free character throughout all positions.
