What's included in this pickup set, and do I need soldering skills to install it?

The set includes the pickup pair, a split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip, screws, and springs. EMG's solderless wiring system means no soldering required—installation is straightforward for players of any skill level.

How long does a 9V battery last, and what's the noise level?

The single 9V battery provides approximately 1000 hours of playing time, and the output noise is -90 dBV, delivering quiet, hum-free operation across all genres.

Can I use these pickups in genres like metal or thrash?

These pickups excel in rock, pop, indie, jazz, and studio sessions. They're not designed for traditional or thrash metal, where higher-output designs are typically preferred.

What does the active tone control do, and do I need to rout my guitar?

The active tone control (VLPF) lets you roll off high frequencies on demand, shaping your brightness without passive EQ limitations. No routing or guitar modifications needed—it integrates with the included control set.

How do these compare to passive single-coil pickups?

The SAVX pairs Alnico V pole pieces for articulate single-coil character with active X series preamp technology that eliminates hum, delivers consistent output (0.7 RMS voltage), and provides direct high-end shaping through the built-in tone control—advantages passive designs cannot match.

The flat Alnico V pole pieces provide the brightness and articulation expected from single-coil designs, while the X series preamp maintains a 0.7 RMS output voltage and 1.0 peak output voltage with minimal noise at -90 dBV. Onstage, that noise floor means your signal stays clean even through high-gain rigs or long cable runs. The active tone control (VLPF) lets you roll off high frequencies on demand, shaping your sound without passive EQ limitations.
