EMG SAX/SAX/85X Active Single Coil Pickup in White

EMG SAX/SAX/85X Active Pickup Set in White

This three-pickup configuration pairs two SAX single-coil pickups with one 85X humbucker, delivering a versatile active system built for stage reliability and tonal flexibility across all positions. The solderless installation system makes retrofitting straightforward, while the integrated preamps and active tone shaping give you real-time control over your instrument's character without sacrificing output or headroom—critical for live performance consistency.

Active Electronics & Tone Shaping

Both the SAX and 85X pickups use X series preamp architecture, which increases dynamic range and headroom compared to earlier EMG generations. The SAX single-coils include an integrated Active Tone Control (VLPF)—a variable low-pass filter that lets you trim high frequencies on the fly, giving you smooth, controlled treble roll-off for cutting through mix or taming harsh venues without losing clarity. The 85X pairs Alnico V magnets in close aperture coils for focused output and harmonic richness, rounding out the set with full-bodied humbucker character that sits well in a band context.

System Components & Installation

The complete kit includes two 25k active tone pots (VLPF), one 25k volume pot, a stereo output jack, 5-way selector switch, battery bus, mounting hardware, and all necessary cables—everything required for a clean, solderless wiring job. Internal shielding and low impedance preamp design on the SAX pickups minimize noise while maximizing signal clarity, ensuring a clean, interference-free platform for your tone even in crowded RF environments.
