Do I need to solder these pickups in, or can I install them myself?

The EMG Solderless Install System is included, so no soldering iron is needed. The package also includes a split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws, and springs for a complete drop-in installation on compatible instruments.

Will these pickups work well for metal and high-gain styles?

Yes. These pickups are specifically designed for high-gain rock and metal, with ceramic bar magnets and a newly designed low-impedance preamp that eliminates hum and RF interference even at higher output levels. They maintain balanced output during aggressive string bends while keeping noise virtually nonexistent.

What's the tonal character compared to traditional single coils?

The EMG SX delivers articulate, tight clarity that single-coil players expect, but with the noise-free, high-output performance of an active system. The ceramic magnet construction and close-aperture coils preserve definition while eliminating the hum typical of vintage passive single coils.

Are these pickups suitable for jazz or vintage tone purists?

No. The SX is voiced for high-gain contexts and modern articulate tones. If you're pursuing traditional jazz character or vintage single-coil warmth, other options would be a better fit.

What's included in the box?

The set includes three EMG SX active pickups in ivory, the Solderless Install System, split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, and complete hardware (screws and springs).
