Description
EMG SX/SX/89X Active Single Coil Pickup Set in White
This EMG active pickup set combines the articulate response of dual SX single-coil pickups with the tonal versatility of the 89X hybrid pickup, delivering clarity and punch without the hum associated with passive designs. The active circuitry provides consistent output across the frequency spectrum, ideal for players demanding precise note definition and low-noise performance in studio and live settings.
Active Electronics & Noise Rejection
Active EMG circuitry eliminates 60-cycle hum while maintaining the dynamic response of single-coil and hybrid designs. The powered preamp ensures signal integrity over long cable runs and maintains headroom during high-gain amplification—crucial for gigging musicians running into long stage cables or sharing amp rigs.
Tonal Range & Application
The SX single-coil configuration delivers classic articulation and brightness for leads and rhythm work, while the 89X hybrid design in the bridge position adds body and aggression without sacrificing note separation. This pairing excels across rock, metal, and contemporary styles requiring both clarity and sustain, handling everything from tight rhythm riffing to singing lead tones on stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's included in this three-pickup set and what guitar does it fit?
This set includes dual SX single-coil pickups for neck and middle positions plus one 89X hybrid pickup for the bridge. It uses standard EMG mounting and wiring compatibility, so it fits any guitar designed for three-pickup configurations with standard EMG routing. A 9V battery is required to power the active circuitry.
How does the active circuitry benefit recording and live performance?
The active preamp eliminates 60-cycle hum and maintains signal integrity over long cable runs, critical for both studio sessions and stage setups. Consistent output across the frequency spectrum ensures your tone remains punchy and defined through high-gain amplification and multiple overdubs without losing headroom.
Is this set suitable for blues and jazz, or just metal and rock?
This set is designed specifically for metal, rock, hard rock, and contemporary high-gain styles. The articulate, aggressive voice and extended dynamic range optimize for those genres; blues and jazz players typically benefit from passive designs and warmer, smoother tonal profiles.
How does the 89X bridge pickup differ from the SX single-coils?
The SX single-coils deliver classic single-coil articulation and brightness for leads and rhythm work, while the 89X hybrid pickup combines humbucker body with single-coil clarity, adding aggression and sustain in the bridge position without sacrificing note separation. This pairing balances definition with punch across the full range.
What skill level do I need to install and use this set?
Installation and setup are best suited to intermediate, advanced, or professional players familiar with active electronics and soldering, or experienced technicians. Standard EMG wiring compatibility makes installation straightforward for those with pickup-swap experience, though battery management and preamp integration require some technical knowledge.
