Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the HHX New Sym Viennese different from earlier HH models?
The HHX New Sym Viennese offers enhanced sustain and projection compared to standard HH models, while maintaining the dark, complex Viennese voice. It's built with the same premium B20 bronze but engineered for articulate attacks and musical decay at high dynamic levels.
Is this cymbal suitable for rock or metal?
No, this cymbal is designed for jazz, classical, orchestral, and ensemble performance. Its dark, refined tone and blendability make it less suited for hard rock, metal, or high-volume rock styles where brighter, cutting cymbals are typically preferred.
What skill level should I have to play this cymbal?
These cymbals are best suited for intermediate, advanced, and professional players who can control the nuanced articulation and dark timbre. Medium weight construction requires a developed touch to get the full range of musical response.
How does the 20" size work in an ensemble setting?
The 20" size with medium weight projection cuts through ensemble contexts without overpowering other instruments. The dark tones complement rather than compete, making it effective for blending with strings, brass, woodwinds, or vocals.
