Description
Seymour Duncan SH-8n & SH-8b Invader Set, StarGazer Pickup
The Seymour Duncan Invader set delivers aggressive, articulate high-output performance with muscular low-end definition and crystalline top-end clarity. Built for hard rock and metal players who demand maximum sustain and cut through dense mixes, these hand-built humbuckers maintain definition even at extreme gain levels. The matched SH-8b bridge and SH-8n neck configuration provides balanced response across both positions while preserving the aggressive character this pickup is known for.
Design & Construction
Hand-built in Seymour Duncan's Santa Barbara factory using three massive ceramic bar magnets and oversized metal oxide pole pieces, these pickups are engineered for maximum output and clarity. Vacuum wax potting eliminates microphonic feedback and squeal, critical for stage stability during high-gain applications where feedback control is essential for live reliability.
Tone & Performance
The specially overwound coils and ultra-high output character deliver aggressive articulation with punchy mids and extended sustain ideal for drop-tuned and standard tunings alike. The 4-conductor lead wire enables flexible wiring configurations, allowing coil-tapping or series/parallel switching for tonal versatility without sacrificing the core aggressive voice—essential for gigging musicians who need options without downtime between sets.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Invader different from other high-output pickups like EMG 81/85?
The Invader uses three massive ceramic bar magnets and oversized metal oxide pole pieces, hand-built in California with vacuum wax potting to eliminate feedback. It's voiced with crystalline top-end clarity and muscular low-end definition while maintaining articulation at extreme gain—designed to cut through dense mixes without losing punch or sustain in metal and hard-rock contexts.
Can I use coil-tapping or series/parallel switching with these pickups?
Yes. Both pickups ship with 4-conductor lead wire, which enables flexible wiring configurations including coil-tapping and series/parallel switching, giving you tonal versatility without compromising the core aggressive voice.
Will these pickups work in drop-tuned guitars?
Yes. The Invader set is designed to perform across both standard and drop-tuned applications. The ultra-high output, extended sustain, and muscular low-end definition ensure clarity and articulation even in lower tunings.
What's included in the set?
The set includes a matched SH-8b bridge and SH-8n neck configuration, 4-conductor lead wires, 12 black oxide cap screws, and nickel silver bottom plates. Both pickups are hand-built and vacuum wax potted.
Are these pickups suitable for jazz or blues?
No. These are ultra-high-output pickups voiced for metal and hard rock. Their aggressive character, punchy mids, and high-gain performance are not designed for jazz or blues applications where cleaner, more nuanced tones are typically preferred.
