Ibanez AR Series Guitars - frequently asked questions
What does AR stand for on Ibanez guitars, and what defines the series?
AR stands for Artist. It is a double-cutaway, set-neck solid body design dating to the late 1970s. The series is defined by its set-neck construction and twin-humbucker layout. The AR420 and AR520 revive it with flamed tops, dual humbuckers and Tri-Sound coil switching.
What is Tri-Sound switching on the Ibanez AR420 and AR520?
Tri-Sound switching lets each humbucker be set up for different tonal voicings. That means one guitar can cover more ground than a fixed two-pickup layout. It pairs with the dual humbucker setup on the AR420 and AR520, giving players more flexibility without changing instruments.
What is the difference between the AR420, AR520, ARZ and AR Prestige?
The AR420 and AR520 are the core models, with flamed tops, dual humbuckers and Tri-Sound switching. The ARZ variants are single-cut, giving a different silhouette. The AR Prestige sits at the top of the range as the most refined version. B-Stock units, open-box, discounted and fully covered, are sometimes available, such as an AR420 in Black Mirage Gradation.
